Q #1: What is your morning routine for your workday?

Before I start my work day, I get my thoughts together with a to-do list. I like to use good old-fashioned pen and paper. There is something empowering about crossing off items on your to-do list as they day goes on. If I don’t finish something the night before, I transfer old stuff to the top of the list for the next day.

Q #2: What is your favorite social media platform?

Facebook. What matters most to me is faith and family, and Facebook makes it easier to stay in touch with family members who live far away. I have a big family and we use our own Facebook group to interact, share records of family tree, and post about family events. Our church also has its own group where everyone interacts, asks for prayers, and shares information to support one another.

Deanna also owns and manages Sassy Girl Community on Facebook. It’s a community primarily of women business owners and entrepreneurs who network and support one another.

Q #3: What do you see business owners struggle with the most on social media?

There are two things that they struggle with the most. One is that most of them think that because their cousin’s sister’s friend does their social media every now and then, it’s good enough. They also don’t truly understand algorithms, analytics, or the value of social media as a whole.

Q #4: What advice would you give to someone who is starting their own business?

I asked Sharon Osborne the same question, and I’ll give the same answer as she did: know your brand. Everything you do is going to focus on your brand and mission.

Q #5: What’s your favorite resource for staying on top of industry
trends?

Social Media Examiner is my Bible, I read it every morning. Oh—and of course Joe Pulizzi.

Q #6: What made you want to get involved with DOYO Live?

I am so excited to see this happening in our area. Digital marketing isn’t anything new, but so many people around here still don’t understand its value. I’ve had a lot of good response about DOYO—people are really excited and there’s a lot of chatter about it. There are even people who have no background in digital marketing at all coming to the event.
